Bullet Points of the Days:
July 2nd
- 2:00 P.M. - The Kick-off is at the Commandant’s House in Boston by the U.S.S. Constitution, “Old Ironsides.”
- Our families, along with Brad’s from the West Coast Team, attend and meet Katy. I hope the expression, “the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree” is true because Bill’s, Dan’s, and Brad’s families seem great.
- 4:00 P.M. - We leave Boston and head to NYC.
- I sit in the car and have a moment of “This is real.” For a second I am scared and I wonder if we will talk. We do after Dan teases me; thank goodness, I am a little inept at distinguishing my right from my left because it begins a great flow of conversation. Then we continue talking about movies, music, and everything under the sun as we drive.
- 6:00 P.M. - An angry gas attendant in Connecticut is not accommodating to running our gas card, and then asks us to move away from pump while we waited for Dan in the bathroom. We are supposedly blocking it from other customers; however, not another customer arrives at the station before we leave.
- 7:30 P.M. - Bill is constantly block by trucks, vans, or even walls that appear along the highway randomly while trying to capture the perfect sunset with the video camera.
- 9:18 P.M. - Enter the lively and active New York City.
- We arrive at the hotel and while I take out the bags to check-in, an instance of alcohol abuse occurs. The wheels on one of the suitcases, catches a bottle of Red Truck, and in horror, I watch the bottle break into a hundred pieces after it hits the pavement. While I stand dumbfounded, the smell of the wine sweetens the city.
- After we check-in, Dan gets shots of the city and Bill and I conduct interviews with the Gershwin Hotel people.
July 3rd
- Dan and Bill go to B&H Video to pick equipment that they need for the trip while I document Gershwin Hotel.
- We travel to Rockefeller Center where we will meet my college suitemate, Susan, and grab lunch.
- After lunch, we return to Rockefeller Center and visit the “Top of the Rock.” We get a gorgeous view of the city and the Empire State Building.
- There is a problem with an external microphone for the camera that Bill just purchased earlier that morning. We are stuck at B&H Video for 2 hours.
- Dan swelters outside watching the equipment we didn’t want to bring into the store. He photographs as series of feet out of boredom.
- B&H Video is like no other electronic store that I’ve seen. Thousands of pieces of equipment under many different categories; i.e. photography, video cameras, microphones, ipods, printers, etc. Each category had its own team of Specialists trained to assist you for any need.
- They also have an overhead conveyor to run purchased equipment to the front and the guys let me climb the ladder and send some items on the belt. It is my biggest excitement in the store.
- Finally, the microphone snag was fixed and we decide that its time to leave NYC.
- We go make it to the Jury’s Normandy Inn in Washington, D.C. and it is a gem for the price and quality.
